Wicker agrees to debate Musgrove... sometime between now and November

Roger Wicker is apparently feeling the fallout from his decision to back out of the Neshoba County Fair debate, and has agreed to debate former governor Ronnie Musgrove. Yesterday the Clarion Ledger reported that Musgrove had challenged Wicker to a series of debates.

Former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove has asked Sen. Roger Wicker to participate in a series of Town Hall meetings leading up to the election.

Wicker’s campaign has not denied the request but appears to want more control over the schedule and format.

Musgrove proposed that there be eight meetings — two meetings in each of the state’s four congressional districts — from July to October, with the first set for July 1.

“I believe that the voters of Mississippi will be best served by a real discussion of the issues,” Musgrove said in a news release. “No highly stylized presidential-type debates — just a series of frank conversations with voters.”

Wicker tepidly agreed to debate Musgrove several times before November. Too bad he already backed out of the first debate scheduled for July 31 at the Neshoba County Fair. WTOK of Meridian had this to say.

Musgrove has proposed several specific dates for town hall meetings with Wicker prior to the November election.

Wicker said he and Musgrove will debate several times between now and November.
