Front Page New York Times Story on John Eaves

The New York Times:
“The Eaves campaign, with its heavy emphasis on prayer and faith, says it is gaining with evangelicals and born-again Christians in Mississippi, a voting bloc making up perhaps half of the electorate here. And evangelicals are paying attention.”

“‘I’m a Democrat because Democrats invest in people; I’m a Democrat because I’m a Christian,’ [Eaves] said in a recent interview, after shaking hands at a diner in the courthouse town of Kosciusko. ‘Jesus came to help the people. He healed the sick, and he tried to help the poor. The Democrats’ core fiber is to help people. That was Jesus’ mission.’”

  1. This race is really getting some national attention.

  2. Too bad it's not the right kind of national attention on the issues that matter, like Barbour's blind trust, the healthcare proposal / support of tobacco, the fact that Barbour has been helping his old casino clients, etc. etc....

  3. Better the devil you know eh?

But Eaves is right when he declares, he's a Democrat because he's a Christian.

I never understood why Democrats ran from their faith. If anything the compassionate open nature of the Democratic party and liberals ally themselves more with mainstream religious values as I see it. And I'm an agnostic.

So while i'm iffy about seeing all this God talk in our State leaders, its good to see Eaves make inroads in groups Democrats have lost.
