New Rasmussen MS-PRES poll

Since the economic meltdown a few weeks ago, Obama's numbers have steadily moved up across the country. New polling for Mississippi shows Senator Obama is making headway down here in Mississippi. This is the first poll released after the debate in Oxford.

What is interesting is the high favorability numbers for Sarah Palin. She has dropped to around -10 nationally, but remains popular as ever in Mississippi with a rating of +31. So far Mississippians don't care about her embarrassing lack of knowledge. Did we not just try eight years with a likable guy who had an embarrassing lack of knowledge?

One other item of note. One of the questions asked was:

7. What is more important, creating economic growth or reducing the income gap between rich and poor?

62% Creating economic growth
30% Reducing the gap between rich and poor

I find that an an amazing response from the poorest state in the union. Especially with the top 1% taking the highest percentage of pre-tax income since 1929 (remember what happened that year.)

Huge new MS-SEN poll out today, here comes Ronnie

This whole financial meltdown has hurt Republicans across the board from McCain on down. I have been waiting for a new set of numbers to come out. Well they are here, and they look good. Rasmussen, whose polls are usually favorable to the Republicans has a new poll out today. I don't have access to the crosstabs.

New Rasmussen poll - President

John McCain stretched his lead by 2 points in the latest Rasmussen poll of Mississippi. McCain lead 52%-41% in July. His August lead has grown to 54%-41%. When "leaners" are included McCain still leads by 13 points at 56%-43%. The most alarming number for Barack Obama would be his dwindling support among white Mississippians. McCain led among white Mississippians 87%-13%. Obama has a staggering 97%-2% edge among black voters.

New Rasmussen poll - MS-SEN

A new poll released today by Rasmussen shows little change from the previous months results. In July Roger Wicker enjoyed a 6 point edge 48% to 42%. This month shows with a 47%-42% advantage. When "leaners" are included that lead grows to 52%-43%.

Musgrove -- 42%
Wicker ----- 47%

Among white voters Wicker leads 71%-22%. Among black voters Ronnie Musgrove leads 83%-17%.

New Rasmussen poll for the Presidential shows McCain widening his lead in Mississippi

Rasmussen also came out with this poll today. I am unable to pull the crosstabs, because it is a pay service. John McCain nearly doubled his lead from the last two polls. I personally believe that the misinformation out there about drilling is hurting Obama in Mississippi. Unfortunately most Mississippians erroneously believe the canard that increased offshore drilling will lower their gas prices. The Republicans have even admitted this is not true when pressed. John McCain said it would have "psychological benefits." The GOP, not known for dealing in facts, are more than happy to play the drilling card even when they too know it is a LIE.

New Rasmussen Poll shows Wicker opening a 6 point lead

Roger Wicker is benefiting from his enormous cash advantage. He has been able to run a series of ads in all parts of the state, in effect to introduce the north Mississippi congressman to the rest of the state. Ronnie Musgrove has yet to really fire his guns, besides a DSCC ad.

A new poll is out today from Rasmussen, one of the best polling firms out there. In parentheses is last months result from Rasmussen.

Roger Wicker ------- 48% (48)

The lead grows to 52-43 when leaner's are included.

There is one major flaw with this poll. Being that this is a special election, there will be no reference to party on the ballot. The candidates will NOT be identified as Republican or Democratic in the polling booth. This poll erroneously identifies their parties, which has to be worth a few points to Roger Wicker.

This should be a call to arms for us Democrats. The first of the month will be here in a couple of days. Set aside some money to send to the Musgrove campaign. We cannot afford to sit around and wait for help.

Rasmussen has a new poll out for the Obama-McCain race here in Mississippi. Mississippi has six electoral votes available in November.

Musgrove still tied with Wicker in new Rasmussen poll

Former Governor Ronnie Musgrove finds himself in a statistical dead-heat for the second straight Rasmussen poll. Rasmussen ran a poll in May that showed Musgrove with a 47%-46% advantage, but well within the three point margin of error. Today’s poll show Wicker with a 48%-47% lead, also well within the margin of error. In the pointy-headed world of numbers we like to call this a statistical dead-heat.

Huge new polls out from Rasmussen

Two new polls related to Mississippi came out today from the polling firm Rasmussen. Rasmussen has rated very high in accuracy this cycle, placing in the top 5 of 31 polling outfits. They ran two polls of interest, one on the Senate race and one on the Presidential race. Both polls are shocking.

For the Mississippi Senate seat vacated by Trent Lott, the special election matchup is former Governor Ronnie Musgrove against Roger Wicker who vacated the Congressional seat now help by our beloved Travis Childers.

These numbers lie within the 4 percent margin of error, so it is a statistical dead heat. Kos over at the Daily Kos moved this race into his top 5 for the cycle. Kos can raise lots of cash if he highlights this race on his website. He raised over $20,000 for Scott Kleeb in Nebraska in less than a week about three weeks ago. I don't know if he will do that kind of thing here, but I sure hope so.

Edit: I misread the poll, Musgrove is in the lead 47-46, not behind.

To quote Kos:

As DavidNYC has pointed out, if Obama can get African Americans to 40 percent of the voter pool in the state, he actually has a chance of winning the state. This poll seems to confirm that, giving us a competitive race with a 36 percent black sample. (Blacks made up 34 percent of the 2004 statewide vote.) Unfortunately, we don't have numbers for white voters. As David points out, with a 40-percent black share of the Mississippi electorate, Obama would need at least 20 percent of the white vote to win the state. Kerry got 14 percent of the Mississippi white vote in 2004.
