Please don't let these confederate flag morons do this to Mississippi

The state of Florida is now allowing the Confederate Clowns or something like that to erect memorials such as the largest rebel flags on record on our interstates. Apparently plans are in the works for such embarrassing displays in Alabama as well. We catch all the crap in the world here in Mississippi for this kind of stuff. I can think of nothing more disrespectful to a large number of southerners than proudly displaying a gigantic confederate flag on our public interstates.

While my ancestors fought on the wrong side, I am completely aware that the way of life they were fighting for only benefited the wealthy planters. We were oppressed under the economy of the "Old South". I would likely be living on dirt floors had the South somehow won the war. These Confederate Clowns, or whatever the name of their group is, are the scariest loonies out there, alongside the gun show freaks, clinic bombers, and the religious right. Those wackos scare the poop out of me. I thank God the South lost and would prefer not to be offended on my interstate travels.

From The Christian Science Monitor:

Despite years of boycotts, schoolyard bans, and banishment from capitol domes, the Southern battle colors are flying, higher than ever.

Indeed, the Tampa Confederate Veterans Memorial and its 139-foot flagpole features one of at least four giant "soldier's flags" flying over bumper-to-bumper interstates in Florida and Alabama. With more planned in Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, and possibly South Carolina, the interstate show of force, experts say, highlights the potential backlash from banning nostalgic symbols from the public square.

  1. Poor man dying for the rich man, while black man in chains. That is the legacy of the civil war.

  2. Thanks for this. The pro-flag voices in our state always seem to be the loudest. When I moved here roughly 8 years ago from the West Coast, I was horrified to discover that there were still people waving the Confederate flag. It is good to hear that there is opposition too. I'll certainly join you in opposing efforts to erect giant flags in our state.
