W's Legacy

The Democratic Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives released a chart a few weeks back examining the legacy of George W. Bush, and it isn't pretty.

Some of the highlights include:
  • The job creation rate in 2001 at 1.76 million per year, compared to an astonishing 396,000 per year in 2007
  • The number of Americans living in poverty has rose from 31 million to 36 million.
  • Nine million more people are uninsured since 2001.
  • Median household income has decreased since 2001.
  • The price of gas has gone from $1.39 to $3.07 since 2001.
  • US trade deficit in 2001 - $380 billion; in 2007 - $759 billion.
While this cannot all entirely be blamed on Bush, the Republicans were also the ones in charge of Congress until 2007. For the full report, and sources, click here.
