Childers video misunderstood

OK, I have watched the supposed rebuke of Obama by Childers today about 10 times. There is one central fact that has been misunderstood by the majority. Obama never did endorse Childers officially and never had contact with the Childers campaign. Go find it in any newspaper dated before today, I beg you. The only thing that happened is the Obama campaign sent an email, to all of us on the Obama mailing list from Mississippi, offering his phonebanking tools in support of Travis Childers on election day.

The way he offered support was via use of his phonebanking tools. Why would Obama not support Childers versus a republican? This is how Obama is changing the game, with his grassroots support network. For the better, Barack feels the commitment to offer that network of support to down-ticket dems, in large part on his own. Thank you Obama.

Childers more than likely had no idea that Obama had taken the step to email everyone on his private campaign list from Mississippi to enlist support for Childers. Obama is trying to build the progressive coalition that can get help to working families. So Travis was caught off guard today, and had no idea what in the hell they were talking about. I am sure him and Obama would agree on 90% of what matters to Mississippians.

  1. Let's see what did CottonMouth say on April 22nd,

    Obama for Chiders

"The endorsements just keep streaming in for Travis Childers."

The above are YOUR WORDS regarding the Obama Letter, YOUR WORDS.

So which way is it going to be?

    Yall are great,

  2. Plus you are kidding yourself if you think that presidential campaigns go around clumsily acting on behalf of campaigns without their knowledge, from what i hear you have to beg and plead to get that kind of an email from the Obama camp

  3. It was not an official endorsement. That is fact, if we got it wrong then it was our mistake. I beg of you to find one mention by the Childers campaign of an Obama endorsement.

Obama is building a new coaliton. Maybe on the GOP side do you have to beg and plead but not over on the hope side. Obama is trying to build a new majority, not 50+1.

  4. Cotton Mouth is not an all knowing omnipresent voice, it is a forum that hosts the views of half a dozen people. That particular post was put up by a Jake Cooper while this post was put up by Jeff.

So "YOUR WORDS" are a little unwarranted, don't you think?

The Obama campaign has done the same for every other special election and I do believe there has been no coordination. The Obama campaign has some more important things to be worried about.

Obama did endorse a special election candidate in Illinois and made that a clear endorsement:

I'll assume that you have just as good of sources within the presidential campaigns which is to say none so I'll assume that the begging and pleading you hear is imaginary like your argument against Childers.

    I won't wait for a mea culpa.

  5. Besides that I don't think Childers would mind an endorsement by Obama if he got one. He had no idea what they were talking about today, that was obvious.

The ad implies that Childers and wright are connected idealogically at the hip, a blatant misrepresentation designed to stir up racial tensions. Thanks for the divisive identity politics you knuckle-draggers.

  6. I forgot one thing, thanks for your continued support of Cotton Mouth.

  7. Jake, Jeff, John, Jeez please pardon our confusing yall.

ROM is a forum for what has been as many as 5 bloggers but we try to keep up with each other and not post blatant contradictions.

Travis was not "caught off guard" in the video because the ad had been airing for over 24 hours by the time they shot the footage. He was uncomfortable because he was lying.

I bet yall would be screaming bloody murder if the situations were reversed.

Yall better fess up to at least being a little bit wrong here.

  9. Knuckle-draggers shouldn't be blamed for their unfortunate long arms. ;)

We really shouldn't call people names here.

  10. Childers had no contact with the Obama campaign. Did you see Obama's name listed as an endorser of Childers anywhere other than here? It was a mistake, not even a big one at that. The facts remain the same, whether we posted them correctly or not. Spin all you want. The good people of MS-01 are interested in the economy, jobs, fair trade, and ending the war. News flash we are on the right side of all four issues. If we were not your boy Davis would have mopped the floor in R+10 district. Instead you in a gunfight with a knife. What you are left to is the tried and true GOP southern strategy of divide and conquer. So spin your race-baiting ads all you want and enjoy being on the crap end of a 3-1 congressional split in your home state.

  11. One writer gets an e-mail and posts it with one line of commentary. (which happens to be wrong)

Another writer later posts correct information in an original post (not just the copying of something else)

Then blog B claims that blog A is “blinded” and insinuates that they are assisting a lie.

    Not really a contradiction.

  12. There we tried to fix out post. Hope that is better and is more clear.

It's pretty hard to follow what is what you have to admit when one post calls the thing an endorsement and one says it isn't on the same blog.

Sheesh, so now we are knuckle draggers?

  13. Pardon me but aren't we getting a little obsessed with who endorsed who and exactly to what extent?

I watched the news this morning talking about the recession, the Iraq War and the threat of Iranian intervention, rising gas prices and the falling dollar, the job market getting tighter, etc.

Shouldn't we be more focused on what the next Congressman will do for North MS and for the entire region?

Childers has let us know his plan. When will Davis do the same? He has said anything yet. Even his website is obscenely shallow on the issues.

  14. He endorsed him, man. Save the spin. Childers looks either foolish or like another Slick Willie trying to deny the obvious. And you were bragging on it from this site very recently.

No offense, but it is what it is. If Travis is ashamed of being a Democrat, well, he should say so.

  15. The main problem here is not whether Obama did or did not officially endorse Childers.

The problem is that, when confronted with the right wing slime machine, instead of standing firm, calling bullshit on the value of their very question and redirecting the conversation to matters of import, Travis blinked.

And in blinking, he stepped right into their frame. He gave credence to their spin by answering the way he did, and didn't step up to defend another Democrat.

The minute he starts playing their game on their terms, he's in trouble. And that's what troubles me.

  16. FYI: today (Wednesday, April 30th), DavidNYC at the Swing State Project will be personally matching donations to Childers through their Act Blue Page.

  17. My post was intended for those who were offended by what they perceived as a rebuke of Obama by Childers. Like I said, they never met or talked. Obama offered his support structure without asking. That is all.

I can't vote for Childers since I am in Fondren, but i can support him. I can and will vote for Obama in November.

  18. The sad thing is, this could have been a great opportunity for Childers to frame the debate, had he played it right.

  19. Sounds like he's ashamed to me. Personally, I wished he had have played it your way. He would've gotten his clock cleaned, but at least I'd have respected him for having the guts to tell the truth and stand his ground.
