I just answered a call at my workplace (8-28-07 -- run-off day) -- we have new numbers, and we get a lot of auto calls for various things on one of the numbers. The call was an auto-call from a woman (she had a Southern, African American dialect) who said something along the lines of "Martin Luther King Jr., Fannie Lou Hamer, Medgar Evers all devoted their lives to giving us the right to vote. Don't let them fool us again. On Tuesday, vote for the REAL Democrat, Todd Brand."
Two white men running for office leads to more racial tactics than nearly any other race -- bizarre.
Todd Brand may have the last laugh if he produces the affidavits that he claims he has in his possession. If he takes them to the media today, then what leg will Sumrall have to stand on?
The question is whether or not the affidavits are for real, not whether he has them. Plus, he would have to show a direct link to Sumrall, which doesn't exist.
I could get an affidavit within 30 mintues saying mike sumrall and elvis just landed a pink ufo on the steps to the state capital and both made phone calls claiming to be black. Will it be true?
No but neither are a lot of sworn statements.
Get the statements, get their phone records (like they want to turn them loose) and check the calls. Follow up if any look like a phone bank.
Todd has had 3 weeks to get any sworn statments to the public, law enforcement or the AG. He hasn't had time he says. No I think he simply doesn't have them.
Curious, the way I understand it Brand never accused Sumrall of placing the calls. He just stated that they were made and that Sumrall benefited. They should also have been listed as an inkind donation to his campaign. I will admit though that the ad was outrageous. Check me on the Tupelo Northeast Daily Journal article last Tuesday to see if I am right on the question of linking to Sumrall.
Todd, You are correct that at first Brand stated that there were calls from which Sumrall benefited, and he also named other candidates who thought the same thing had happened in their races from these same mystery calls. Then, people started handing out fliers in parking lots of churches, Northpark Mall, etc. and plastering them as signs around the state that accused Sumrall "and his Republican Friends" of stealing votes by lying about his race and asking recipients to "Take back your vote this Tuesday. Vote Todd Brand." So, as time wore on, and things became more desperate, the accusations got more and more directed at Sumrall and it became more and more evident that he was being blamed as being an accessory in the calling scheme -- not just a beneficiary.
It'll take a couple minutes to process on YouTube's end so if it doesn't work at the moment then try again later.
ReplyDeleteI'm so proud of you. See what happens when you ignore class for just an hour or two.
ReplyDeleteThis is the ad that WAPT found was false. They aired their report last night.
