Rudy/Haley Ticket?

CBS News is reporting that Haley Barbour could be Rudy Giuliani's vice-presidential nominee.

(US News) A potential presidential teaming could lead to the sharpest-ever clash in the White House: a clash of accents, that is. Political allies of former Big Apple Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour are actively pushing the two together, with the 9/11 mayor and New Yawker on top of a ticket that would feature the just re-elected drawling hero of his state's Hurricane Katrina victims as veep.

They are being dubbed the "Masters of Disasters."

  1. First of all, with the danger of going 0-for-3 in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina a growing possibility, Giuliani would do well to postpone any thoughts of running mates.

Second of all, I'm not so sure that Mike Huckabee hasn't played his way into the VP spot. If Giuliani or Romney wins this thing, then they could use a southern conservative with evangelical appeal. Two months ago, I would've agreed that Barbour seemed like the likeliest guy for that gig. But given Huckabee's surge and the affinity that he has engendered, he's in a much better position.

  2. Mike Huckabee is a much easier sell outside the South, too. Though "no master of disaster," Huckabee does not have the divisive background Haley Barbour brings to the table.

I also agree that Giuliani is a long way off from picking running mates.

  3. The disaster ticket would be just that for the GOP. Bring it on.

Keep up the good work. I'll be back in the states in two weeks. :)

  4. Mike Huckabee will be the GOP nominee for President. I was worried about him months ago, and now that Sam Brownback is out of the race, he's the darling of the religious right. Huckabee will win the nomination I predict! And, if he's smart, he won't be seen within 50 miles of that crook Rudy Guiliani!!
