The session has ended!

The 2008 Regular Legislative Session has ended! While they will probably be back soon for a special session on Medicaid, the big part has ended.

It has been quite a ride with the new legislators, starting back to the Speaker of the House being re-elected by one vote, to funding education, to giving Entergy the right to charge ratepayers for plants that may or may not ever be built.

Please share your thoughts on this year- the good and the bad bills. Which legislators worked for the people of Mississippi, and which ones didn't. What should we be looking out for next year?

  1. I've been very impressed with two of our brand new representatives that I've been paying attention to.

Brandon Jones (D-Pascagoula) and Toby Barker (R-Hattiesburg) both showed themselves to be strong advocates of their areas and put forward some common sense legislation. I hope we continue to elect more like them regardless of party.

I didn't get too excited over any legislation this year, but I'll admit I was a bit detached. It all seemed like the usual fare.

  3. I found out the special sessions will apparently be starting before the end of June.

The House Judiciary Committee has a report out that suggests Paul Minor, Oliver Diaz, Don Seigelman, and officials in at least 3 other states were subjected to selective federal prosecutions and they're asking for investigations. Links here:

    Happy day!
