Truth Check on Childers & Nursing Homes

Below is information sent out in a release today from the Democratic Party outlining the truth about Travis Childers' nursing home. What is disparaging about this situation is that there are some really awful nursing homes out there, and if there is a good, quality care facility that does care for the elderly of the state, we really don't need to tarnish it's reputation in the name of politics. I'm sure many people who read this blog can share stories about family members were abused or neglected in a facility.

Here is the real story about how Travis Childers takes care of Mississippi seniors:

TRUTH: In 2008, Childers was honored with a “Nursing Home Quality Award Certificate” by Information & Quality Healthcare (IHQ), the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Mississippi.

TRUTH: In 2002, the Mississippi State Department of Health found Childers’ nursing home in compliance of federal requirements for nursing homes participating in the Medicare and Medicaid programs.

TRUTH: Travis Childers’ beloved mother and mother-in-law both reside in the Landmark Community, an assisted living center Childers owns.

TRUTH: According to Healthgrades, a leading independent health care ratings organization, Childers’ nursing home significantly increased its score in comparison to the state average of senior care homes. In 2007, Childers’ senior care home received a perfect score and did not receive any deficiencies, a statistic that only one of 12 senior care homes can boast. [Healthgrades.com]

Since 2004, when data has been available, Childers’ senior care home did not receive a single violation. [Healthgrades.com]

TRUTH: In Childers’ senior care home in Booneville, there were NO reported violations regarding the mistreatment of residents and NO deviations from the
expected quality of care of residents. [Nursinghomerank.com]

  1. The public is finally tiring of the GOP's "slash and burn" politics. Where will they run to then?

  2. I really am suprised that this is the route they took. It's not the usual screaming of LIBERAL or whatever.

Again if this is the worst they have... the possibility that perhaps someone could be hurt in the future based on a website of unknown origin.

I think Childers stands on solid ground.

  3. Kudos, Jeff! "The public is finally tiring of the GOP's "slash and burn" politics."

It is a shame when a candidate for an office in these United States PROVES beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is not interested in the welfare of ALL the citizens that he represents and yet still asks for there vote and support.
Greg Davis's blatant accusation of the Childers Nursing home standards was a slap in the face of decent moral elderly voters of North Mississippi....it was not an attack just on Childers and it has angered not only the voters who call the LandMark "home", but also all their families, all the employees and even some staunch republicans who would have otherwise cast a DAVIS vote! Yet he stands in front of them and ask for their vote, when he has all but said they are STUPID or at least LESS THAN INTELLIGENT for living in a place that is supposed to be so substandard and loving it!
A facility that is known throughout the state for its cleanliness and care of its residents. A place that authorities PATTERN their standards after and want other nursing homes to live up to!
WHAT were you thinking Davis, that you can spit in the face of society and then expect them to put YOU in office for the good of THEIR community! GET REAL!
and by the way Thank you Davis for swaying your voters toward Travis Childers!
I think he crossed a line that will no doubt cause a cross over of voters that would have otherwise been a sure bet for him!
