SurveyUSA Electoral Matchup

This may be by far the coolest chart and map I have seen yet. SurveyUSA has been by far the best polling service this election cycle. Here is the SurveyUSA electoral map in a matchup of McCain and Obama based on polling completed March 6.

Here is the SurveyUSA breaking it down by state and electoral delegates.

  1. That is some good information. It looks like we have our work cut out for us in Mississippi. I suppose comparing McCain to Bush doesn't have much impact here given that most of the state probably still supports Bush.

  2. I'll just say that this poll came out well before the record-breaking numbers of past Tuesday. I already think that polling vastly underrepresents actual voters (trending older and white) and we are going to see some really interesting stuff this fall.

  3. Virginia is 47-47 in the poll with a lean to Obama, but would would change the outcome if it leaned the other way.

Unfortunately for Mississippi Democrats, everyone's November maps will have Mississippi preprinted in red. Even Obama will not devote much time and money trying to win the state.

Turnout has a huge effect in primaries, but is not enough to change the general election. Turnout already is very high in presidential general elections, especially when the outcome is in doubt.

  4. I bet the DNC pumps money into the Musgrove race. Researcher is probably right, but I hope not. I hope that Dean's 50 state strategy means they will help make Mississippi competitive in November.

  5. Hey guys,
This is off the subject and I am not trying to start a debate here, but I was wondering how ya'll felt about Obama's chances now that the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's comments have been picked up by such mainstream media outlets as CNN and WSJ. Until now, the Reverend has been on the periphary of election talk. For better or for worse, this is clearly no longer the case.

Here is the CNN link if you haven't seen it: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

    Here is today's WSJ op-ed piece: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120545277093135111.html?mod=hpp_us_inside_today

    Thoughts?

  6. Obama can't really be blamed for or control his preacher. In fact, he's publicly denounced some of the things that his preacher has said. We can only imagine how awkward that would be for anyone.

However, Rev. Wright's did ask this question: "Who cares about what a poor black man has to face every day in a country and in a culture controlled by rich white people?"

We have seen in the Bush administration that he only cares about his rich friends. He doesn't care about middle-class or poor Americans, regardless of race. Our country is in a very scary state economically, and we need someone who isn't there to make life easier for his/her rich friends.

  7. I wonder if Rev. Wright is talking about the twenty-six African-Americans who sit on the boards of Fortune 500 companies when he says that we are controlled by "rich white people". Or maybe the unprecedented number of people of color who serve and have served in this administration's cabinet? Whether we like Bush or not, the fact that he has presided over the most ethnically diverse cabinet in American history cannot be denied.

Anyway, I personally think that Obama will have to come out with much stronger language than he has thus far in distancing himself from some of the racist, fascist and anti-semitic comments of his closest spiritual adviser should he want to be elected leader of the free world.

    I hope he does this.

  9. Oh, please. Like anybody who's worked up over the Jeremiah Wright thing wasn't already opposed to Obama?

  10. Perhaps you are right. I'm just saying there's a lot of people who previously didn't know about he and Wright's closeness and now do thanks to every major news outlet.
Oh well, Obama's done all he can do to condemn the comments. We'll just have to see how it plays out.
