The only Democrat running for Mississippi lieutenant governor this year says he is at least as conservative as the Republican candidates on social issues.
State Representative Jamie Franks of Mooreville says he has voted to ban abortion and same-sex marriage.
So, he believes the biggest issues separating him from the Republicans are education, health care and the economy.
State Senator Charlie Ross and state Auditor Phil Bryant -- both from Brandon -- are competing in the August 7 primary for lieutenant governor.
The primary winner will face Franks in the November 6 general election. The current lieutenant governor, Republican Amy Tuck, is term limited and could NOT run again.
Franks is traveling the state to launch his campaign this week.
