Final Mississippi Band of Choctaw Vote Totals

1,697 Denson
1,486 Martin

From the Clarion Ledger:
The final tally in the Choctaw tribal election put Denson 211 votes ahead of Martin.

Certified Tribal Election Committee results Friday gave Denson 1,697 votes and Martin 1,486, the same count the commission released Thursday.

"I deeply appreciate the hundreds of volunteers who worked on behalf of my campaign," Martin said Friday in a written statement. "Thank you all for your tireless work and devotion. However, the campaign is over."

Martin said he was proud of his accomplishments and thankful that he had been allowed to serve as a tribal leader for so long.

The tribe plans Tuesday to swear in its first new chief in decades.

Denson will make his first public address since the election and his first as chief July 11 at the Choctaw Indian Fair.
