Eaves:
“I disagree with Hillary Clinton on a number of issues,” said Eaves. “We both believe in providing health care for children, but I’m pro-life, she’s not. I believe in prayer in school, she doesn’t. I have never donated to Hillary Clinton. Barbour always throws out facts and no one ever bothers to check them, but he needs to get them straight before claiming something about me that just isn’t true.”
“My mailman can figure out the difference between me and my father, the Governor should know better, too,” concluded Eaves.
Here are the FEC reports of “John Eaves'” donations to Clinton:
12/20/2006
3/21/2006
12/20/2005
With the staff and resources that are at Haley's disposal, they really shouldn't be making such amateur mistakes.
Eaves needs one too. Kid Care = $100 Mil more than Eaves said it would cost.
ReplyDeleteEh, That's if you go with the hight end of the estimate and based on compliance with current programs there is no reason to expect it to get there.
ReplyDeleteAlso, pricing something as complicated as healthcare is infinitely more complicated than making the simple phone call that would have been necessary to clarify the campaign finance question.
You ought to change your blog title to the Cottonmouth Apologist.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any proof or sourcing at all for this statement:
"That's if you go with the hight end of the estimate and based on compliance with current programs there is no reason to expect it to get there."
What exactly is your expertise to comment on health care cost economics?
My expertise is that of any other citizen, I read the papers and listen to the smartest folks I know.
ReplyDeleteI always leave open the option that I could be wrong; I present the facts as I know them to be true.
Thanks for confirming that you can't support the statement.
ReplyDeleteToo funny. You took an Eaves statement and posted it as if you were the originator of the content.
ReplyDeleteBlock Quotes show that it is a quote as does the "Eaves:"
ReplyDeleteGlad the flamers here post anonymously. Couldn't they just create a "Barbour Staffer" ID instead? It'd be less obvious that way.
ReplyDeleteGood try but you make no reference to the Eaves statement. Other bloggers and media reference their sources by name. Your alluding by block quote won't be found in the book of "best practices".
ReplyDeleteYou got caught.
What do you expect from Haley Bartbour, the disciple of the late liar Lee Atwater. Haley is the Great Distorter. Haley needs to get back to Walking Mississippi, I saw him at the debate and he looks more like Porky Pig than a Governor!
ReplyDeleteI don't think anonymous understands block quotes.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this book of best practices?
Looks like your pal YallerDog was fooled by your non-standard blockquote too. About this post he wrote:
ReplyDeleteIt probably didn't take but half an hour for the Cotton Mouth blogger to look this up, but his analysis is dead on and adds to the debate in a meaningful way.
We know you didn't look anything up but you wanted to make it look that way. What you don't understand is how to properly reference resources.
It appears that only one person who read this post and deigned to comment on it was incapable of figuring out that the blockquotes were words out of Eaves' mouth, as reported by some news agency.
ReplyDeleteIgnore the dumb people, John.
I have a question.... All of the advertisments that I see for John Eaves picture him saying that we need to clean up Ms.. He seems to harp on the fact that Haley's firm still pays him a hefty salary every year. I am by no means an expert on politics and this may be a dumb question but, Why is that a problem. The fact that he is still being paid money by firm that he is a partner in. I can't see how that is any worse than Eaves suing the Navy(if that is a fact). I am just not "feeling" Eaves on the issues he is campaigning on. He also complains about the cigarette tax that barbour vetoed and I do have a little bit of experience in tobacco sales(a friend that own a imported cigar store). With every increase on tobacco and alcohol there is a dip in the tax base. People do quit with the increases in tax. Eventually the tobacco tax base will dwindle. I am of the opinion that replacing a tax on groceries would be a crutch or short term fix. Even if short term is 20 years. Also this medicaid business that Eaves is harping on kills me. He says that Haley tried to kick our parents off of medicaid. I would bet that 25% of the people in my town that are on medicaid are people in nursing homes. People who transfered all their assest to their children before entering the nursing home, or paying for nursing home care for 36 months after they transfered their assests to their children. These people on medicaid have assets in excess of 100,000$ but because the "look back" period for medicaid qualified nursing home care is only 36 months, rich people end up with medicaid paying for their nursing home care. Medicaid is bankrupting Mississippi. I think that Eaves is throwing all this mud when he is probably just as if not more dirty that Haley. If I have to choose between 2 evils I tend to choose the lesser of the 2, and that is Haley. Sorry I got off on tangent, but I am hoping someone can help to inform me on these things.
ReplyDeleteFred, in response to your statement.
ReplyDeleteI do see the conflict of interest as a problem.
It's also a problem if he says they aren't paying him when they are.
I think a drop in tobacco use is a problem I'd be happy to have. The status quo isn't good. If people stop smoking they will be healthier and more productive and even if we have to tax something else the combined benefits will have been worth it.
The specific abuse of Medicaid that you highlight is not one that Barbour or Eaves have addressed. Perhaps your representative would like to tackle that legislatively. Call them and see if they have any interest.
If Haley had felt threatened early he would have thrown the first blow. It is only now that the race has tightened that he's getting just as nasty and twisting the facts to a much further extreme. Haley was running the show in '94; believe me, he knows how to be nasty.
I don't think either man is evil. I do think they both have pocketbook priorities. Haley's is his own and John's is helping the folks of Mississippi.
Thanks for the comments. As you might be able to tell, I am not well informed on the race but after the debate at Ms. State, I was reading the news paper and it seemed that all Eaves is doing is making accusations instead of having a real solution. Also, what do you know about the lawsuit with Eaves and the navy. I think I saw something like he was suing for 100 million. What is the story with that.
