The Natural Resources Defense Council had this to say in a 2005 press release post Katrina.
Nearly six million gallons of oil pouring out of seven pipelines and
coastal storage tanks ruptured by Hurricane Katrina amount to one of the largest U.S. oil spills in history.
For any of you doubters out there, since the link in the post is to an environmental website, these are for you.Major spills so far involve facilities owned by Shell, Chevron, Murphy Oil and Bass Enterprises Production. Offshore, nearly 40 drilling rigs have been destroyed. Some washed up on local beaches, one crashed into a bridge, while others simply disappeared.
By comparison to Katrina, the Exxon Valdez oil spill -- America's largest -- dumped 11 million gallons into Alaska's Prince William Sound.

So you are happy for other countries to provide the US with oil, the worlds most profligate user, as long as its not from your own back yard. Bt you can't see that of course
ReplyDeleteIs that the plan?
Not a very moral outlook.
Surely. Produce your own, it's more secure and uses less oil to transport it to you. But put in place all the anti-pollution safeguards you can.
Isn't that the moral and reponsible way? Thats not a right wing view- it's common sense - and green too
It is a global market. There is no such thing as produce your own. The oil we produce will be added to the market and wherever the market dictates.
