Reed Production To Stop Production In Mississippi

Another plant in Mississippi will cut back on employment in Mississippi.

From the Daily Journal:
Uniform and apparel maker Reed Manufacturing will stop the last of its domestic production operations in October, a company official confirmed Wednesday.

While the company is not closing the facility at 1321 South Veterans Boulevard, the move will cut its domestic work force in half. George Taylor, Reed's vice president of finance, said the 55 affected employees received notification Friday.
...
"This is not the first downsizing that has occurred at this facility in Tupelo," he said. "It has pretty well gotten down to a bare-bones operations here."

The production quotas from the Tupelo plant will be shifted over the plants in the Dominican Republic.

  1. This is something I haven't particularly gotten into, but expect me to fully articulate why I oppose huge "economic development" projects. Short answer is they only look good for the cameras why small businesses that want to expand don't get any help. We can help build the next Viking here or we can bribe some multinational company to come. Grrrr.

  2. Hi John, this is something I write about quite a bit. A recent entry, "history of apparel manufacturing" has links to fairly recent research.

I hope you find my site useful if you pursue this eco dev angle.
