Vote for Mike Sumrall

There are many reasons why you should vote for Mike Sumrall including but not limited to his long and deep experience doing the kind of work that is necessary for the job of State Auditor.

Dr. Todd Brand is a very intelligent man and I'm sure that a doctorate in Community College Leadership will help him get about any job he'd like to have, but I really think now is the time to choose Mike Sumrall. Allow me to spell out some reasons.

1. He is very, very qualified. The web page details his pertinent work experience He is the most qualified out of the 3 remaining candidates (Sumrall, Brand, Pickering).

2. He not only has experience, but has shown competence and vision. Years before computers became the norm he saw where technology was going so he went back to school to study computer science so he would be prepared to meet that challenge. Between his knowledge of audits at various levels and his knowledge of automating processes using technology he would be an excellent fit for State Auditor today.

3. He didn't say the following:
"(Bryant) has done an outstanding job leading the audit department, but he has faced a shrinking budget for the last three fiscal years."

Defending the current Republican candidate for Lt. Governor's failed tenure as Auditor is not a quality I want in a Democratic nominee. The Auditor's office was given money to investigate the beef plant fiasco and he gave most of it back. With people (finally) going to jail, shouldn't they have been a little more thorough?

4. He's from South Mississippi. This may count against him elsewhere, but I'd like you to think about how few of our statewide candidates are from the Coast. I think he is one of two running statewide from the Southern region. We deserve representation too.

Mike Sumrall is a man of good character and a friend to the people of Mississippi and seeks the office so that he may serve the people just as he has done for the last 20 years. He deserves your vote and support. Vote for him tomorrow, Tuesday the 27th.

  1. Beautiful!! I couldn't have said it better myself. Have you seen that dirty ad Brand has put out? He has accused Sumrall of portraying himself as black and a member of the NAACP so he could get the black vote. I nearly barfed when I saw it. I'll vote for pretty boy Pickering before I'd vote for Brand. But I'll go all-out for Sumrall if he is the nominee.

  2. Thank you. I haven't seen any advertising recently because I'm back at school and am getting pretty much all of my news from the internet.

  3. I've seen it all now! This is hysterical! Blame it on the Republicans, if that doesn't work, blame it on the guy who beat the crap out of you without any money at all. At least now the bar has been set for dirtiest ad yet. Someone PLEASE get a copy of this up on the internet. Where is that crack-shot Cotton Mouth post? Surely, you aren't going to let school get in the way of this education?

  4. Mr. Covington, your post is difficult to decipher.

Where does Cotton Mouth "blame it on the guy who beat the crap out of you without any money at all"?

If I can get ahold of the ad, I'll gladly put it up.

  5. Suddenly Mike Sumrall is a Saint! Todd Brand did not put out a dirty add just told the truth. The truth hurts. Sumrall is nothing more than a pawn of Haley Barbour and the Republican Party. Remember the late Lee Atwater taught them all of those tricks. You are supposedly Democrats do not be hoodwinked by the Republican tatctics. The Mississippi Democratic Party better wake up before it is too late. Vote tomorrow for the true Democrat for State Auditor Todd Brand!

  7. What a hilarious website Mr. Brand has! I saw no mention on positions he would take as State Auditor. All I saw was resume puffery and platitudes. State Auditor is not a job for someone who shakes a magic eight-ball and see the job auditor displayed. I have a hard time seeing someone under 30 years of age with no occupational experience leading a group of hardened veteran professionals. I smell disaster.

On the other hand, Mr. Sumrall is more than qualified for the position. His support among those in the profession is overwhelming. Please cast your ballot tommorrow for Mike Sumrall.

  8. John Leek you can tell that you have been in college and not paying attention to politics in the real world. You have whole lot to learn about politics in Mississippi which cannot be learned in any college text book which may be found in the Department of Political Science. I see you are still a sheep and not yet a shepard. Good Luck to you John!

P.S. Even though we disagree here, I enjoy your blog. Keep it going!

  9. 3 weeks ago 2 out of 3 MS voters told Todd he didn't have what it took to be state auditor. That after spending over 130,000 dollars compared to 10,300 for Mike Sumrall who got almost 50% of the votes.
Dirty shots the last weekend of the run off was their only out when your message doesn't sell sling mud.

I actually like the issue of campaign reports that mike has raised. Some of Todds have been late and none of them have been complete and accurate. Can we trust a person that doesn't follow the law on campaign reports as the next state auditor?

Check out my profile to see a couple things about me.

For instance you may find that I am not a student of "Political Science." I don't believe there is much science to politics. It is more of an "-ology" as a study of the art and the history of politics.

As far as "not paying attention to politics in the real world" I'll say in my defense that I spend about 2 hours a day reading newspapers and websites mainly on Mississippi news. I also have a half dozen folks I consult who have longer histories in state and local politics whose perspectives enhance my own knowledge before I write.

  11. John Leek: I can tell those you consult with are out of touch with politics too. Let me guess you consult with the likes of Ocean Springs Mayor Connie Moran, Councilwoman Julia Weaver and the other half baked Democrats in Ocean Springs.

  12. On WAPT last night, they did a truth report on that ad against Sumrall, and they determined it was not true.

  13. Leek: I was referring to Brand blaming blaming the Republicans then blaming Sumrall. I often disagree with you, but this isn't one of those times. I still wish someone could find this ad and put it on the site. Also, it is scandalous that Brand turns in his finance report the DAY of the election to hide the 90k he just spent on this swill. Did anyone else see Sumrall on the news? I genuinely feel sorry for him.

I haven't spoken to Connie since I saw her at the Neshoba County Fair (and that was a surprise).

It is cool to know I have some local readership though, thanks for the comment.

  15. Brand also stated that he has signed affidavits attesting to the fact that a phone bank was done for Sumrall.

  16. The WAPT story did not contain all of the evidence. Brand could still show up at WAPT with the affidavits. What then?

  17. Jimmy, you make some good points about the website. I do know, however, that Brand is over the age of 30. I think he is 33.

  18. John, I have checked other blogs and yours is the best. Ya'll Politics is more a chatboard than a website. Magnolia Politics is great but it is not a blog. I have looked at other state blogs and believe me: Yours is the best. I believe you when you state you spend two hours or more studying newspapers and other blogs. Running a good blog is not easy and you have done a great job.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Actually I think the affidavits were just supposed to be from people who received the calls, not that they were "done for Sumrall" which implies he ordered them.

  20. Anon 3:39,

Thanks for clearing that, I stand corrected. He does look like a young cherry on those website photos. However, my main point still stands.

    - QUALIFICATIONS
    - VISION / PLAN

I see none. This office is not for some novice. Dealing with elected officials and key personnel on a daily basis requires experience, street smarts and a level head. Elected positions statewide should not be on-the-job training.
