Wayne Dowdy - Current State Chair / Former Congressman / Ran for Senate against Lott in 1988 for Stennis' seat
John Eaves - Attorney / Current Dem Candidate for GOV / Former Congressional Candidate

  1. I don't see a winner on the list. This is a very hard district for a Democrat. Taylor's district may have a higher R performance, but the Gulf Coast has more independent and persuadable voters, more voters not born in Mississippi, and is not nearly as racially divided as the rest of the state. The 3rd District is literally black and white with the white flight base of Rankin County reliably 75% Republican. Moore, Musgrove, or any other candidate who is not really from the district will get clobbered in the eastern half of the district. You would need a populist with a real connection to the working class whites who might be persuaded if you can get them to focus on the economic decline of East Mississippi due to trade-related plant closings, and specific appeals for improving health care and education in small towns and rural counties. The war does not do much for the Democrats here because this is the heart of No Surrender country.
