Northern Public Service Commissioner Race

Ad for Democratic candidate Mayor Brandon Presley:

Ad for Republican candidate Mabel Murphree:

I got the following in an e-mail about the race:
Influential Republicans in North Mississippi, including a former US Congressional Candidate, are defecting from Public Service Commissioner North GOP nominee Mabel Murphree and heading toward Democrat Brandon Presley. Sources say that many Republicans in Murphree's home area in Lee County are vocally and visibly opposed to her candidacy. This may also include Governor Haley Barbour, as he did not allow her to join him at the podium in Oxford on a September afternoon to promote Republican Party candidates. Governor Barbour relieved Murphree of her duties as Director of the Appalachian Regional Commission shortly after being elected. Records in the Secretary of State's office show that Murphree gave $5000 to Democrat Ronnie Musgrove, Haley Barbour's opponent for Governor, in 2003.

If anyone has any further information on the race please leave a comment.

  1. The N.Miss Republicians, and the MS Republican party are 100% in support of Mabel Murphree for PSC.
The US Cong Candidate mentioned is a good guy, and close friend of Mr. Presley. The Governor has recognized and introduced Mabel Murphree at every public event I have attended. Ask any of the 8 plus former ARC Directors, It is a will and pleasure/political appt. The simple fact is the current director resigns when a new Governor is sworn it. Know the facts.

So does that mean you don't think there will be a single crossover vote for Presley? That would likely be a first.
