Scooter Libby endangered the life of a CIA agent and the security of this nation.
He recieved a sentence of 30 months in prison with two years probation and a $250,000 fine for lying about it.
President Bush has now saved his friend, the lawbreaker, from facing prison time.
In doing so he shows once again that there are two Americas (if I can borrow a phrase from John Edwards). There is one where if you commit a crime you pay the price and there is another where through the power of influence you escape that punishment.
Whats even more perverse the US Supreme Court within the last month upheld an even harsher sentence for a HIGHLY decorated vietnam veteran who was convicted similar counts of perjury, in United States v. Rita. It just goes to show this administration has NO respect for the rule of law. (But is this really a surprise in light of Bush v. Gore?)
ReplyDeleteThis is just more BS from the same people who said they didn't impeach Clinton for what he did but for lying under oath. The good news is Bush is gone next year the bad news is it looks like one of his cronies Barbour will be with us in Mississippi for four more.
I spat. Then cursed. Then danced around and threw some things. That President of ours is a son of a bitch. So insanely pissed.
ReplyDeleteAnd I was one of the less dramatic ones in my office.

I'll take your complaint seriously when I see a similar complaint about Armitage NOT being prosecuted even though he WAS the leaker, not Libby and some grief over Clinton pardoning Rich (who later helped Saddam avoid sanctions) and the Puerto Rican terrorists.
ReplyDeletekingfish - apples to oranges won't work here for you 28 percenters. Intro to Law 101: a jury convicted Libby based on the arguments of a REPUBLICAN US Attorney,a "W" appointed Federal Judge sentenced him under the rules. Now, our 28% C student President is "hooking him up". Justice for the haves, JAIL for the have nots! Is the air up there in Jackson really bad this summer?
ReplyDeleteArmitage was indeed the leaker. What was Libby guilty of? Obstruction of justice and perjury. What other famous figure in American politics committed perjury and obstructed justice to this extent? I believe his name is William Jefferson Clinton? Such a sad pitiful state of affairs that a double standard of this magnitude is being set. Even more unbelievable is the fact that this issue is so partisan that Democrats want him to go to jail JUST BECAUSE he was a member of Bush's administration.

ReplyDeleteknock it off. Bush also pardoned Clinton. You want that revoked as well?
You want to make a case for Libby going to jail? Fine but then I want to see a prosecution of Armitage.
Bush commuted the sentence. Libby still is a felon and has a $250,000 fine. This isn't exactly a slap on the wrist. Libby will most likely be disbarred and will not vote again. Financially, he is most likely ruined, and his lifelong pubic service will be overshadowed by this conviction. Just because he isn't going to be bunkmates with Bernie Ebbers doesn't mean he got off light.
ReplyDeleteWell, I gotta give it to you Repubs, at least you are sticking up for your little pipsqueak Scooter! Lets face it, he is just one of MANY in this most failed, miserable, incompetent, 28% administration of freaks that are so STUPID that they all probably commit hundreds of felonies everyday. Remember, the country is laughing at you, and the world is laughing at you. Now back to 5 years running and can we please get the road from the Baghdad airport to Halliburton's Green Zone secure? I mean, in the same amount of time we defeated the ENTIRE AXIS of Germany, Italy, and Japan all over the globe in WW2! Go get em Scooter and the tough boys!

ReplyDeletestick to the issue. You can post better than that.
kingfish - I know, I am a little cranky lately, I think the heat is getting to me. I even find myself going to your site everyday now, I must be getting a little senile while still in my 40's! Good thing I love Mississippi, and a good thing I know you folks do too! Still think this heat is getting to me......
ReplyDeletethanks. I'm trying to keep that site a mix of things. check out the medicaid post. I think you will find it interesting. I've enjoyed this blog for the most part. Debates are cordial, points are made, no personal attacks. Like it the way it has been so far.
