This is the third in a series of five to help the Democratic Party, particularly its presidential hopefuls, to get the framework right, to broaden its lens through which it views Katrina, what’s stopping recovery, what will speed up a vibrant recovery, and how Katrina affords us the opportunity to transform the basic quality of life for all Americans.

All of the FEMA shenanigans have been unnecessary and avoidable. Unfortunate for us, Mr. Compassionless Conservative Bush apparently has a sadistic side to himself which he plays out in public, on the public, and at the public’s expense. FEMA is a case in point.

My personal favorite was the school in Covington that FEMA told them to rebuild as FEMA would pay for it then after the school was built, FEMA tried to stiff them.
ReplyDeleteOne quick thought. Your post shows great reasons why you don't appoint lawyers to run departments like FEMA or Homeland security. They aren't decisivie. They are trained to look at things 10 different ways. Those two leadership positions really need someone who has military and/or law enforcement experience. Lawyers have their place in governmnet of course, but you wouldn't appoint a lawyer to be a general for a reason. Just a morning ramble.
kingfish - you are right! Brownie had no business heading FEMA, the guy there now has a first responder background like he should. FEMA needs to be directly under the Prez, hopefully one day it will be! And as much as I dislike Bushco, the Congress was also very much to blame in rushing in after 9/11 to establish the Homeland Security Dept. and allow it to become very non-functional. Politicians from both sides are guilty in not getting a handle on this thing!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking more of Chertoff but yes, you are right.
