Fired up and Ready to Go at the 9:30 Blues Cafe

I went to the Barack Obama election results viewing party tonight at the 9:30 Blues Cafe in Jackson. There was a nice crowd there as I expected, after reading that 177 had signed up online. We all enjoyed drinks as blues pumped over the PA until 7:15 or so. At that point former Governor Ray Mabus made his way to the microphone set up down front as the music was cut down. The local news crews were on the scene and I think I got in their way about 12 times. Mabus was introduced by a local, young, African-American politician who led the crowd in the "Fired up and Ready to go" cheer. Mabus gave a brief but inspirational talk, where he repeated Obama's talk of hope and change. The former governor made a great point during the talk when he said we can and will make Mississippi competitive in November, if not to win to at least make the GOP spend money and precious time here.
