There was no line and were more than enough voting machines. I expected this because my home precinct is VERY Republican.
One of the Democratic poll workers told me that it was about 10 - 1 folks coming in to select Republican ballots.
When I voted on a DIEBOLD machine it worked relatively well and I was suprised at the ease of writing in William Winter for Treasurer. I couldn't bring myself to vote for the given choice.
It is supposed to print a copy of your results when you vote, but mine didn't and after I voted it said it was out of paper. This means there was NO paper copy of my ballot. This shouldn't happen.
Feel free to post your voting experiences in the comments.
My vote in NE Jackson -- versus the C-L's David Hampton who really lives in Fondren -- went fine. We've got a quality detail oriented Election Commissioner in our district. She is a Republican but fair, methodical and accurate which is all that matters in my book for that office. Here in Hinds County we've been using WinVote machines for some time now. I've never encountered an issue in my precinct since we went electronic and having voted here for decades can share that it certainly has reduced overall the time one waits to cast a vote. My spouse has worked some primaries for the party and she's never noted any issues beyond those that are poll worker training related. I usually visit the precinct multiple times each voting day, at the same time of the day, to get a rough feel for how the overall turnout is going. This morning and at lunch time overall turnout was average but not as high as our mayoral primary in 2005. Hampton made a big deal this morning about conservatives voting Democratic but too easily forgot that they also did so for McMillan in 2003. (I also doubt he's be taken snapshots of behavior of his own polling place each election day to determine what is normal versus out of the ordinary.) I don't know who that hurts or helps in the GOP Lt. G race but I highly doubt the small enclave of GOP voters (which gets smaller every year) inside the Jackson city limits were going to be the difference in that election one way or the other. We are slated to vote in this precinct each of the next four weeks if there are any runoffs from either today or next week's special city council election to replace Ben Allen. Pray for the patience of our voters.
