Wicker's assertion that he is a "mainstream" conservative is nothing short of preposterous. Wicker has consistently been ranked one of the most conservative members of Congress; in 2006, he even out-right-winged looney toons like Reps. Jean Schmidt of Ohio, Marilyn Musgrave of Colorado, Duncan Hunter of California, and Roy Blunt of Missouri. Out of his 13 years in Congress, I have yet to learn of a single occasion on which Wicker bucked the popular right-wing political trend. He opposed the immigration reform plan that the White House supported last summer, but only because, in his mind, it was too moderate a position.
Wicker's trying to say he's mainstream. He might want to try getting out more.
