Roger Wicker Continues To Attempt To Take Credit For Other's Work

Here is his second ad and like the first one this is only showing on the Coast where he is weakest:

"He fought for us after Katrina"

Yeah, right. He's admitted that he barely visited the Coast and only came with a bipartisan group of Congressmen on the invitation of Congressman Gene Taylor; someone who's actually been fighting for us in Washington.

In contrast Wicker's Democratic opponent Ronnie Musgrove was on the Coast dozens of times helping us rebuild without getting himself in the news.

In it Republican Biloxi Mayor AJ Holloway appears to explain what happened to Roger Wicker.

If Wicker still needs to be told about bayou flooding then he obviously hasn't been paying enough attention.

Roger Wicker is spending a lot of campaign time and political money on the Coast because the facts don't mesh with the truth. He hasn't been a champion of the Coast and he isn't who the Coast needs in the decades of rebuilding ahead.

Bonus Clip of A.J. Holloway at the Hillary Clinton rally featuring Bill Clinton in Biloxi:

  1. As you may know we do not allow unsubstantiated accusations in our comments.

When folks called Greg Davis everything under the sun here we deleted it quickly because it's the right thing to do.

You can disagree with who we support, but next time bring facts without calling the person you disagree with names.

In the end the elevated conversation is better for all of us.

  2. The original commenter also took issue with my including of the clip of AJ Holloway saying:

"AJ is a mayor and what mayor would not feel the need to be in attendance to see a former President? Give me a break."

If he'd taken the time to click through the video he'd have seen this that I put up the same time I put up the video clip:

"This makes sense because he's the mayor of Biloxi. I don't think any endorsement was intended"

We are in agreement. I'm just a fan of reusing my work when possible.

I made no statement indicating whether it was a good or bad thing.

  3. My background on Musgrove being an advocate for the Coast:

  4. Mt background reference on thinking your entire assertion is bull:

"We already owe Roger Wicker a debt of thanks." Sun Herald Editorial, 1/1/2008. "When billions of dollars in aid was tied up in Congress, Wicker was on the House negotiating team to secure passage of the Katrina package. When it was approved, Barbour said: 'Our entire congressional delegation, both Democrats and Republicans, worked to help. I particularly recognize the help of Congressman Roger Wicker, whose influence as a member of the House Appropriations Committee played a major role in the $29 billion special appropriations package.'"

  5. Name calling? Please refresh my memory.

Is Copeland Cook and Taylor involved with the insurance cases on the coast? The same firm Musgrove gets his paycheck from? I've seen him there a time or two.

Roger supports Gene Taylor %100 and he always has on insurance issues.

I sure hope Ronnie paid some attention to the coast in the past. He was a former Governor. I think Haley showed that Ronnie wasn’t paying enough attention to many places in our state.Nothing unsubstantiated about that.

Unsubstantiated accusations? Cottonmouth's background on Musgrove and the coast is spot on. Its cottonmouth's thoughts filled with much unsubstantiated, so called information.

The blog knew what it was doing when commenting on Republican AJ Holloway being in Rogers ad and then posting the video of him attending a Bill visit.

It seems to me the blog does not like people keeping it in check with the spin it produces.

Maybe this is post is PG enough to stay up.

  6. Of course when Barbour gave that quote he was doing it for entirely political reasons.

Barbour wants his hand picked man to be in the Senate, and he's happy to do whatever he can to get him there.

The Sun Herald does quality reporting, but it is clear that they have a strong bias in favor of the governor.

  7. Chuck,

Calling someone a liar and a crook (among other things) without any substantiation is name calling and improper.

If you'd like a copy of your comments send us an e-mail and I'd be happy to forward them along.

If Roger supported Gene Taylor "100%" he'd be a Democrat. (more on this later)

Haley Barbour showed how an amazing campaign is run. I think watching them work in 2003 is part of what got me interested in politics. In additon when combined with outside spending (which he refuses to allow the legislature to shine sunshine on) he managed to outspend Musgrove at least 2.5 to 1.

On Holloway, you really shouldn't assume ill intentions on something simple like that. AJ is on his way out and I have no reason to attack him.

Again, we're trying to elevate the discussion.

Keep us in check. It keeps us honest. There was no problem with this post however.

    PG approved. ;)

  8. Using tax payers money for friends and family to fly to the Motor City Bowl in the State plane. Declaring a State of Emergency just to get new furniture. Taking NCAA football prospects to Ole Miss games in State owned cars with MHP escorts, which alone, is a huge violation of NCAA. We can't leave out the $60,000 he received from the Beef Plant folks. The list goes on and on. That's crooked to me. What say you?

  9. Sounds like someone works for the state party... (which I think I've lovingly claimed before.)

Most of what you describe is par for the course. Outside of Governor Winter (who even most Republicans will now agree was a good guy) most of our Governors have used powers in ways they technically shouldn't.

What's funny is when you describe the NCAA example (which I've never heard of before) you want us to see it as awful, but then when Wicker takes big contributions from folks and then gives them big earmarks (paid for by us) y'all say it's no biggie.

Governor Barbour uses the plane to go on specifically political trips among other things. Kirk Fordice disappeared several times to go see his mistress using state resources.

One Governorship does not exist in a vacuum. Musgrove was and is ethical and things go in Mississippi politics.

  10. Who doesn’t remember all the stuff he pulled while being LT.Guv and Guv? Your right, Kirk did his fare share, but he's not running for Senate is he. The Republican Party?? Ha!! I wouldn’t depend on them for anything. You'd be surprised on how uninformed both parties really are.

I think it was Sid Salter or someone like him that wrote about Musgrove and the NCAA back in 2000 or 2001. You need to pull it up. Its good stuff.

Earmarks?? In our state alone Musgrove has done his fare share. $55 million earmark called the Beef Plant that we had to pay for. He received $60,000 in campaign money from people involved with the fiasco. Call it what you will, but Ronnie is no gem when it comes to being fiscally responsible and he's no stranger to paying to play either. It humors me he is going after Senator Wicker about earmarks and the paying to play issue. It’s only a matter of time before Ronnie will be asked some tough questions, by the Wicker camp or the Feds.

Maybe you should do a little research and check out the headlines during those MUSTGO days and you might realize how unethical he really was and most of the State remembers.
