Billy McCoy Thanks Brandon Jones for Supporting Him in Speaker’s Race

Representative-elect Brandon Jones is someone who continues to make me happy.

From a press release:
Following a call today from Representative Elect Brandon Jones, D- Pascagoula Dist 111, expressing his full support for Billy McCoy’s re-election as Speaker, Billy McCoy releases the following statement “Brandon is an extraordinary young man who will be a powerful voice for hurricane recovery funding, public education, and the values he brings to the House. I am sincerely thankful and honored to have his support.”
Democrat Brandon Jones, 30, was elected to the seat vacated by retiring House member Republican Carmel Wells-Smith.

  1. Things are staring to look up for our side already!

  2. I think it's still close, but in the end the speaker will prevail over the mustache. People have reasons to support McCoy while most who say they'd vote for Smith only intend to so so out of dislike of the alternative.

  3. You know, now that you mention it, Smith never really has laid out an agenda as speaker. I have absolutely no idea what he would do, on any given issue.

  4. Brandon had no choice but to support McCoy after all the V-Pac money McCoy pushed his way. McCoy bought that vote, plain and simple.

  5. VPAC helped a lot of members and is a big reason why business interests weren't able to buy the House in addition to most statewide offices.

Brandon Jones was very much a longshot and I don't think VPAC actually gave him that much assistance.

The point of the release was that Jones was another over the total he needs to hammer home the point that he's going to be re-elected Speaker.

  6. Smith doesn't need to lay out any agenda. Barbour will gladly tell him what to do.
