Notable Quote: June 21, 2007

"If the answer is 'build a fence' I've got two goats on my place in Mississippi. There ain't no fence big enough, high enough, strong enough, that you can keep those goats in that fence."

"Now people are at least as smart as goats," Lott continued. "Maybe not as agile. Build a fence. We should have a virtual fence. Now one of the ways I keep those goats in the fence is I electrified them. Once they got popped a couple times they quit trying to jump it."

"I'm not proposing an electrified goat fence," Lott added quickly, "I'm just trying, there's an analogy there."

  2. The best way to stop illigal aliens is cut off the jobs Fine those who hire them to the tune of 100s of thousands of dollars per day per illigal alien. with no jobs they will go home. as a life long Democrate I am being forced to vote independent or Republican over this issue.

  3. Hello concern troll. I agree with fining those companies as do most Democrats.

If you want a solution to illegal immigration you will not find your home in the Corporate Republican Party.

  4. This was a terrible bill. Period. The Democratic leadership was shameful. Tester, McCaskill, Webb and Sanders brought the Democratics into power and they all were against this terrible bill. The democratic party needs to help stop the high unemployment and poor graduation rates in many of our cities and rural communities and flooding the country with millions of low skilled people won't help. There are elitistson both sides and in my opinion they better take notice of just who gave them the majority. Common Sense populists from the middle of the country did. Cotton Mouth I did not appreciate the comments you made to the above post. Change comes from within and hopefully we can change the democratic party. There is something wrong when Murdock does a fund raiser for Hillary Clinton. Oh by the way who is this Jacoby lady from the Manhattan Institute, who so arrongantly dismissed those against that god awful bill as the "loud mouth minority". Talk about the Corporate Elite!!! In spite of what you are hearing. Those democrats did not vote for the bill because it was too harsh on illegal immigrants. Inspite of what the propanda machine at CNN is saying. Oh by the way just try to question my democratic credentials.

  5. I agree with you on the bill.

    See this post: http://cottonmouthblog.blogspot.com/2007/06/i-oppose-immigration-bill.html

Saying this bill was forcing one to vote Republican when the Republican leadership supported it also is dumb.

  6. As a former democrat and newly registered independent, I can affirm that the democratic party lost me when they introduced the comprehensive immigration reform bill subsequent to closed door meetings with LaRaza, LULAC, the Chamber of Commerce & Cardinal Mahoney. Since the last vote for cloture failed, key democrats involved have blamed a handful of uncooperative republican senators & talk radio. Not once have I heard Senator Reid or Kennedy or any democrats express any interest or empathy for the will of the people. Indeed, they have called us bigots and xenophobes, and showed nothing but intolerance for legitimate concerns. They relied heavily on the Department of Homeland Security for what little data they collected to craft this bill--a department devoted to the president's amnesty plan. If this were any other issue, the democrats would not consider information from a cabinet official in the Bush administion reliable. They have accused Bush of ignoring the will of the people on the Iraq war, but refused to heed it themselves on the immigration issue. I hope voters will send these senators a message when they come up for re-election.

  7. Anonymous 1:53 is no Mississippian. :)

You never register with a party in Mississippi. It is not an option.

You just pick up the Republican or Democratic ballot when you go to vote.

    :O
