Charlie Ross disagrees with Haley Barbour.
Phil Bryant disagrees with Haley Barbour.
Jeffrey Rupp disagrees with Haley Barbour.
Delbert Hosemann disagrees with Haley Barbour.
Mike Lott disagrees with Haley Barbour.
I'm having difficulty finding a Republican who agrees with Haley Barbour on this issue.
Haley Barbour opposes mandatory voter ID.
At the Mississippi Press Association "forum*" he had this to say:
“I do think, the courts saying it has to be a photo ID, is probably farther than we need to go at the beginning…Maybe ten years from, we would make it a photo ID, I don’t think that’s necessary at the beginning.
It appears he is more in line with Democrats running statewide than Republicans. His example of bringing in a utility bill is one I've heard several Democrats give.
How do ya like them apples?
*The "forum" had been scheduled to be a debate but likely Barbour pressure changed the format so that he would not have to acknoledge John Arthur Eaves. Click Here For More Info
They make a "me too" chorus
ReplyDeleteI don't get the uproar over identification for voting. In my town the poll workers know everybody. That doesn't work in bigger cities. is there anyone who does not have a drivers license or an identification card for check cashing etc.?
ReplyDeleteWe have it in Louisiana. Don't see the problem.
ReplyDeleteThe dirty little secret is that it is very hard to prosecute a voter fraud case, much less widespread voter fraud.
IF you had people voting who were not the people they claimed to be, it would be virtually impossible to catch them after the fact under current law.
There also is little proof that I've seen (feel free to post links showing otherwise) that there is widespread voter fraud.
ReplyDeleteIt's much ado about nothing.
If we hang tight a few days Bryant will change his position, and then change it back again.
ReplyDeleteso then you shouldn't have much of a problem with showing some form of identification at the polls then.
ReplyDeleteMandatory identification? Look for check points at state borders next. Voting is a right, not a privilege. Cashing a check is a privilege. Renting a video is a privilege. We shouldn't have to prove who we are to exercise our rights in this country. I'll bet if Boss Barbour showed up at his polling place and had to produce an ID to prove who he was, he'd punch somebody out. But, if it's law, it would apply to everybody. Even a prima donna like him.
ReplyDeletekingfish - "so then you shouldn't have much of a problem with showing some form of identification at the polls then."
ReplyDeleteYou appear to be assuming that the only reason someone would support the postion againsts mandatory photo ID is that they are invested in voter fraud.
That is insulting. People oppose mandatory voter ID because it is an unnecessary immpediment to the practice of voting which is GUARANTEED under our constitution.
