False ad pulled from TV

This just in...

False ad by Washington group pulled by local station
WHBQ, FOX 13, pulls ad off air because of deceptive statements

BOONEVILLE (Friday, May 2, 2008) – Memphis FOX affiliate WHBQ pulled an ad by an outside Washington group, Freedom’s Watch, today because of its false claims and inaccuracies attacking Travis Childers, the 1st Congressional District candidate.

The ad falsely states that Childers “wants to raise Social Security taxes.” The truth is that Childers is against raising Social Security taxes. He will fight against the privatization of Social Security and to make sure the Social Security Trust fund is protected.

“WHBQ did the right thing by refusing to allow Washington insiders to spread their lies in North Mississippi,” Childers said. “This was just another desperate attempt by a Washington group to lie about my values, and this time they were held accountable for their false attacks. These outside groups are trying to come in and lie about my record to distract from the fact that Republican Greg Davis raised taxes and bought himself a taxpayer funded car. ”

  1. Looks like the freedom watch is 0-2 today. They had an ad pulled in LA-06 today for being completely barren of a factual basis. I linked to it in my last post. Great news Jake!

  2. Do you have a link? I can't find this article anywhere else.

  3. Nice work, Jake.

And good for the station, for pulling the ad. Any idea what caused them to pull it? Was it the Childers campaign or citizens objecting to it?

Sourcewatch has a page that says they're neoconservative Cheney-puppets with connections to all sorts of dubious characters.

  4. I'm not sure why the "taxpayer funded car" makes it into everything. I don't think that would resonate with that many people. We shall see.

    "Freedom's Watch" better watch itself!

  5. I agree John, these days a taxpayer funded tank of gas would probably be worse. ;)

  6. Well, Dems in the district are paying black preachers to turn out their parishioners. I guess that's not going to get busted by anybody, though.

  7. Do you have proof of your allegation? Or are you just spreading misinformation? I am waiting for a link.

  8. There are no such links, they're not so stupid and I doubt you aren't either. Guy who got a lot of it started has last name that starts with "H", though. You can't bust a guy like that through a board, I shouldn't have posted it. Only through the authorities and even then, they're slippery. But it's being worked on.

  9. Please don't use Cotton Mouth to spread unproven accusations. If you have something, then show it, otherwise leave that to your blog. You are welcome to post here, but make sure it is based on facts that can be verified.

  10. I guess you're right. I shouldn't have. Because it's a lot sexier to b!tch about negative ads than things like this that strike at the very heart of a democracy. Drive down Front St in Tupelo and you'll see no less than 3 Childers signs on the grounds of the black Methodist Church! Do the same in Monroe County and elsewhere. But you're right, I was worn down and got naive enough to think that even those who disagree with me politically are still concerned with the difference b/t illegalities and just bad form. Take care.

  11. I would not come to your blog and post baseless accusations, heck I don't do that here. We work off verifiable fact here not conjecture and hearsay.

Like I said though you are welcome to post. We do not mind dissenting opinions as long as they are based in fact. This is not a rumor page for democrats much less the opposition.

  12. WHBQ -TV pulled the Obama/Childers tax plan ad today and WTVA in Tupelo will be pulling the ad also. It contained a blatant lie that said Childers wanted a Social Security tax increase....blah, blah, blah...I certainly hope that the GOP smear machine takes the Cazayoux win tonight in LA-06 as a strong confirmation message that their generic stupid cartoons are useless and are destroying their own party. Actually, let em keep running those generic cartoons..and watch Travis Childers do in Mississippi what Cazayoux did in Louisiana! GO TRAVIS!! They're running scared!!
